The Journey Begins

I am not a runner. I am not really a blogger either, but my goals for 2012 and 2013 are to become both. I recently had my 2nd child. Margo is 6 weeks old now and I'm ready to get back to exercising after having my first c-section. I also have Asher, a rambunctious 3 year old. I turn 30 next year, which sounds horribly depressing and old! I want to focus on some things for me this year and I've decided I want to become a runner.

I've never been a runner. It's hard and it sucks and it's not fun. I was always that kid who faked sick on the day we had to run the mile for gym class. One year in middle school I ran a 12 minute mile. That is my personal best. I just have never enjoyed running. I danced, I love aerobics, but running, no way. My husband does like running though and I thought this would be something fun we could do together when we have time, and also a good way to get in shape. I want to start my 30s looking and feeling my best. I have a year and half to get there.

My short term goal is to do the couch to 5k and run in a 5k. Long term, I want to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon in Orlando next February. Running 13.1 miles sounds incredibly daunting, but what could make it more fun than running through Epcot and the Magic Kingdom cheered on by Disney Princesses? Also daunting: the fact that you have to keep a 16 minute mile pace or they will sweep you off the course. I don't usually  make goals like this. I definitely suck at the follow through, but I can and will do this and this blog will help keep me accountable.
